Overview
Overview
In dense metropolitan areas like Hong Kong, finding free public seating is a major challenge for everyday pedestrians. Commercialized districts offer sparse public rest areas, forcing tired shoppers, gig workers, and elderly residents into an unfair dilemma: either pay for café seating or endure physical exhaustion. SEEKSEATSIT was created as a human-centered navigation platform that makes hidden, free public seating visible, accessible, and reliable for everyone.

The Core Challenge
The Core Challenge
While the need to rest is universal, Hong Kong's hyper-commercialized landscape offers sparse, hard-to-find public seating. Pedestrians face high social and economic friction, often feeling pressured to pay for café seating just to rest for ten minutes, or enduring physical exhaustion on uncomfortable street railings. Existing mapping platforms exacerbate this issue by prioritizing commercial venues, leaving public seating locations, real-time availability, and physical comfort completely unmapped.

Designing a unified digital solution required balancing the conflicting needs of extremely diverse user groups without inflating interface complexity. The system had to serve tech-savvy students seeking indoor work tables, time-sensitive delivery riders needing rapid resting spots, and elderly citizens requiring high-contrast UI and simple navigation. Our primary UX obstacle was delivering rich, crowd-sourced seating data and 3D spatial clarity while maintaining a low cognitive load for fast, effortless decision-making on the street.

SEEKSEATSIT transformed complex urban field data into a functional, inclusive digital ecosystem. The project reinforced several critical product insights:
Designing for Accessibility Benefits Everyone: Simplifying navigation flows for elderly users directly improved speed and ease of use for busy delivery riders and students.
Designing for Accessibility Benefits Everyone: Simplifying navigation flows for elderly users directly improved speed and ease of use for busy delivery riders and students.
Balancing Familiarity and Originality: While adopting standard map UI patterns reduced first-time learning curves, integrating custom 3D spatial cues gave the platform a distinct, helpful identity.

Prioritizing Intent over Gamification: Based on user testing, we intentionally removed step-tracking metrics to keep the app focused purely on reducing physical fatigue rather than encouraging unnecessary walking.
